We sometimes get asked about what Digital SLR or Video Cameras are the best and which do we recommend. So I thought I would post a few things here when I find them. Hopefully it helps.
This is the new Canon EOS Digital Rebel T1i. Here is why I think this is a pretty dang sweet camera for someone who wants to venture into buying their first Digital SLR camera.
1- 15 megapixel sensor - so most of you probably won't be printing pictures big enough to justify that many megapixels. Although, when you have more megapixels you are getting a sharper more detailed image (more resolution). Which translates into more colorful, sharper, and brighter smaller pictures (ie 8x10, 4x6)
2- HD video recording - We've seen point and shoot cameras that have standard def video recording for a long time. But it wasn't until late last year that Nikon brought the two mediums together into a Digital SLR with the introduction of theD90. As with most who are first out of the gate, the HD video of the D90 suffered from several issues, including poor image quality (high compression pastel like) and video "jello" (see our D90 video here). Canon was the 2nd to release their version of DSLR HD video in the big big brother to the t1i called the 5D Mark II. The 5D Mark II video quality bumped the D90 down into the same category as the point and shoot camera - simply put - the HD video from the Canon 5D Mark II - IS AMAZING! Canon took this HD video recording success and included its core features into the T1i. [1080p (20fps) / 720p (30fps)]
3- In reality this should be the #1 reason to buy, if your considering a DSLR. The D90 retails for $1,299 with the included kit lens. The 5D Mark II retails for $3,499. So, for a camera that is superior to the D90 in almost every way, I'm not sorry Nikon lovers, but is more a kin to the $3499 5D Mark II would you think that $899 would be a good deal for this camera? - the answer is holy crap yes! This is a not only a sub $1000 camera it retails for $899 which means come the holiday season you should be able to pick it up for less - if they are even in stock after this review :) Now where to buy - my recommendation is to keep it local. Pictureline is a great place that teaches free classes and is competitive with anybody else out there. The best part is that they are located right here in Salt Lake City and a new store in Draper. They've got everything camera that your photographic heart could ever desire - even more so than inkleys.
Things to know - this is an entry level DSLR. That means that you will find a majority of your manual controls inside your menu functions instead of on the body of the camera itself. Also, like marriage, once you commit to a brand of DSLR (Canon, Nikon, Sony etc...) you are locked in to that brand of lens. The only way to separate yourself from your first brand and embrace another is through an ugly divorce where all the money you invested into those wonderful lenses you bought for the first DSLR will go away with the first.
That said this sweet little DSLR for $899 blows everything in its price range way out of the water when you consider all of the features that it has. If anyone has bought or used one of these - leave some comments - let us know if its worth the hype. Lastly our D90 is for sale if anyone is intersted... :)

so sad. I would have bought it from you. Sorry, I like Nikon, and your right about the lenses.
I may have a buyer for you. I'll send her to your blog
Nice to know my camera is for sale. I'm sure there will be plenty of buyers after you just ragged on it so much. I would also like to know what you are getting me to replace it.
